Stuff to Eat

Here are a few of our favorite dishes and restaurants in Amsterdam.

Things to Eat

Kapsalon – Gyro meat or falafel covered with french fries covered with cheese covered with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and garlic sauce. Don’t think too much about it.
Indonesian food – Indonesia is a former Dutch colony and Amsterdam is a great place to try Indonesian food.
Bitterballen – Like a gooey meatball covered in breadcrumbs and deep-fried. Served with mustard.
Stroopwafels – The beloved cinnamon and caramel waffle cookie. Eat them fresh at street markets.
Belgian-style (Vlaamse) frites – Thick, steak-fry type fries. Choose from a million different kinds of sauce. Our favorite is samurai-saus.
Herring – In Amsterdam they serve it chopped into bite size pieces with onions. In Rotterdam, you get it whole and slide it down your gullet. Either way, it’s raw. Yum?
